Following this glorious day of sun, sand and surf we stopped in to a well-known dessert shop and well, does it get any better than this - lazing around on the beach and indulgent desserts all in one day?
We also took in the zoo. The pandas were the highlight but I was bummed because the gorilla's were a no-show. We rode the gondola over their exhibit twice hoping to see them from up above and finally resolved they just weren't in there. I also really like the polar bear exhibit. Here are the highlights from the pandas -

Not too many pandas in those hightlights. Landen swiped his first ice cream cone while we were busy taking pictures! We were all covered in soft serve by the time we were out of the exhibit.

We spent a few evenings in La Jolla which has got to be one of the most perfect spots of Pacific coastline created. There is a cove where you can walk out and see wild seals swimming and the seals even come right up on the beach which is open to the public. People really try to respect the space of the seals but even when there are lots of people out we still saw them come up on the beach. One night we were taking some family pictures down on the beach while there weren't any seals on the sand and they started coming out of the water onto the beach right by us! A lady tried to tell us we were scaring the seals and to leave (which we did since we were done anyways) but I had to laugh because the seal obviously wasn't too scared to come and beach his big glistening body just a few feet away from us despite there being plenty of empty beach he could have chosen.

Here is Landen eating fistfuls of sand while the seals start beaching just down below. You can also see some of the seals still swimming with their heads just poking out of the water. And in the distance is the little walkway that takes you out over the water right in the middle of the surf. We spent a lot of time down there tempting the waves to come and splash us...we did get sprayed pretty good a few times. The water was absolutely mesmerizing. Overall we had a great time. Stay tuned for posts of some of our other recent events...Rhett's birthday and Louisa's first pet....

San Diego has to be one of my most favorite places. The beach alone is the best entertainment for the whole family. It looks like you had a great vacation! I love Landon eating the Ice Cream Cone... too funny! Your family pics look wonderful even if the seal interrupted :)
Ah Em...what beautiful memories!!! I loved the family picture. I am going to do one just like it. Just sweet!
